Marley
4 weeksMarley's ideal home
Marley is a charming four-year-old Pug with a big personality and an even bigger heart once you get to know him. He is on the lookout for a quiet, understanding home with patient adult owners who will give him the time and space he needs to build trust. Once he feels safe, Marley is a cuddly little companion who loves to jump on the sofa for a fuss and enjoys playing with his toys.
Marley would thrive in a calm home where any children are aged 12 and over and who are sensible and respectful of his space. He has previously shown fearful behaviour around both young children and unfamiliar adults, so careful, slow introductions are essential. Marley will need a private, secure garden where he can potter about, as he is not suitable for public off lead exercise due to his minimal recall and sensitivity to young children. He may be able to live with another dog if they are a good match and introductions go well, although he would be equally happy as the only pet and having a few canine pals out and about. He cannot live with cats or small furries.
Could you be Marley's perfect match?
If you are the kind of person who enjoys earning a dog’s trust and watching them blossom, then Marley could be your perfect match. He is wary at first around strangers, but with some meaty treats and gentle patience, he comes round and builds strong bonds with his people. In his previous home, he was very closely bonded with his male owner and allowed grooming, clipping and general handling with no fuss at all.
Marley is housetrained but is used to having constant access to the garden, so he would benefit from someone who works from home or can be around during the day, especially while he settles in. Leaving hours should start small and build up slowly. He is known to travel well, jumping into the car on his own and travelling quietly on the back seat. He is generally comfortable around traffic and knows a few basic commands, including ‘sit’, though he would benefit from ongoing confidence and training work.
Marley is very food-motivated (if a little fussy!) and treats are a great way to help build a bond with him. He enjoys having toys but prefers to keep them to himself, so a respectful approach around toys is best. He has shown that he can be uncomfortable with being touched unexpectedly, so his new family will need to be happy to go at his pace and follow his lead.
With the right support and a calm environment, Marley will make a lovely and loyal companion for someone willing to help him feel safe and secure.
